Adults refer to animals or humans which have attained their maximum developmental stage. For humans, the term adult has implications that are based on social and legal concepts. As opposed to a "non-adult" or "minor" legally adult has reached the age of majority and is therefore considered autonomous, self-sufficient and responsible. The word "major" is a term applied to them. The general consensus is that the age at which a person becomes a legal adult is 18. But, it can be different based on rights under the law and the country of origin as well as the development of the individual's psychological.

At the point that a person reaches intellectual and physical maturity, this is called adulthood. Adulthood usually begins at an age that is 21. In general, middle age begins around 40 years old. It is then it will be around 60. The adulthood process is split into three phases beginning with the early years of adulthood (18-mid-30s), mid-30s-mid-60s, then late adulthood from mid-60s up to end of life. When we reach early adulthood we have reached its full physical maturity. However, our body's size and weight could grow. During young adulthood we reach the highest level of physical capabilities.
