An animal adult, whether human or non-human, is one that has grown to its full potential. In the human context, the term adult has implications that are based on moral and social concepts. Contrary to those who are who is not considered to be an adult or "minor" legally adult has attained majority, that makes them independent, capable, and responsible. The term "major" can be used to define these individuals. It is generally accepted that the minimum age that a person legally matures is 18. However, this can be different based on rights under the law and countries as well as the development of the individual's psychological.

Adulthood refers to the period in human life when the person is at maturity both in physical and mental development. Adulthood is commonly thought of as beginning at age 20 or 21. Mid-life, beginning approximately 40 years of age, is followed by the age of 60 years. The three main stages of adulthood are early adulthood (from the mid 30s until late 60s) mid-adulthood between mid-30s to late-60s and later adulthood (mid-60s until the time of death). At the beginning stage of adulthood (between 20 and 40), our bodies are at their peak of maturity although the weight and height of our bodies could increase slightly. In young adulthood the physical capabilities of our bodies are at their highest which includes the strength of our muscles, our reaction speed as well as sensory capabilities, cardiac functioning.
