Adults can be defined as animals or human beings who have completed their developmental stage. If used in conjunction with human beings, the term "adult" could mean anything that is related to legal or social notions. Legal adults are those who has reached the age of maturity and can be considered independent, self sufficient, and responsible. You can refer to them as a "major". The age at which a child can legally become an adult is 18 years old, however the definition of legal maturity is different based on the legal or country system as well as the psychological condition of the child.

In the lifespan of an individual, adulthood refers to the time at which he or she attains full physical and intellectual maturity. Adulthood, as it is commonly understood, starts around the age of 20 or 21. The age of old is 60 years later than middle years. Adulthood is divided into three stages: early adulthood (18-mid-30s) and mid-30s to mid-60s then late adulthood from mid-60s up to the time of death. When we reach early adulthood we have reached its full physical maturity. Yet, our size and weight may rise. In the early years of adulthood, we are physically and mentally at the peak. Strength of muscles, reaction time, sensory ability, and cardiac function are all at their maximum.
