The biological meaning of adult refers to an animal capable of reproducing. Adults are considered to be a social notion as well as a legal concept in our world. Contrary to the concept of a non-adult or "minor" legally adult has attained the age of majority, and therefore is considered an independent, self-sufficient person and accountable. An adult who is legally mature can be called a major. The age of 18 is the standard legal age for adulthood however, this can vary based on the country of origin and status in law, in addition to the maturity of the mind.

The age of adulthood marks the point that a person has reached full maturity in terms of both mental and physical development. Adulthood, as generally understood, begins at the age of 20 or 21. The middle age is approximately 40 before being followed by an old age of about 60. Young adulthood starts between years of between 18 and 30. Mid-life adulthood begins around in the 30s to the 60s. Late adulthood starts at mid-60s. Physical maturation has been completed when we enter our early adulthood (20-40s), although your weight and height could rise a bit. Our physical capabilities are peaking at the age of young adulthood. It includes strength of muscles, reflex time, sensors, and the heart's function.
