The biological meaning of adult refers to an animal capable of reproducing. The term adult is applied to humans to mean the legal and social aspects. Legal adults are those who has reached the age of adulthood and is considered to be an independent, self-sufficient person as well as responsible. Also known as "majors", they can also be thought as having reached the age of majority. It is generally accepted that the minimum age that a person becomes a legal adult is 18. However, this can vary depending on legal rights and country as well as psychological development.

adulthood is the stage of the lifespan of a human being during where physical and mental maturation has been achieved. The term "adulthood" is generally considered to begin at age 20 or 21 years. The middle age stage, which begins approximately 40 years of age then follows by old age at about 60 years. As we grow older, there are three distinct stages early adulthood (18-30 years) middle adulthood (30-60 year olds) and late adulthood (60%-60 percent). When we reach the early stage of adulthood (between 20 and 40), our bodies have reached their full maturity although our height and weight might increase a bit. As we enter the first years of our lives, we're physically and mentally at the peak. The strength of our muscles, the response time, sensoriac ability and cardiac function are all at their peak.
